Valley Diary Takes Over!

This website is now completely hosted over at its new home of www.valleydiary.co.uk. The old host at singletonvillage is clear now and if you attempt to go there, you'll be redirected here automatically. If you have bookmarked a sub-page, however, you'll get an unavailable message when you try to visit. Please make sure you navigate to where you want to be again - from here - and set yourself a new bookmark. I think that I've taken care of all the hyperlinks but please feel free to hunt around and let me know if you find one I've missed. Anyone who has an existing singletonvillage, eastdeanonline, charltononline, singletononline or westdeanonline email address will be able to continue using it as you were before.

Housing Allocations for Proposed Affordable Housing at The Leys

At the Annual Parish Meeting held on 22 March 2006, the Parish Council was asked if it would support applications from people wishing to live in one of the proposed new affordable homes at The Leys. It was agreed that this was a reasonable request, provided it was on the understanding that Chichester District Council's housing allocation process was strictly confidential and excluded the Parish Council entirely. Anyone wishing to submit a letter should write to Mrs. Jenny Martin, the Clerk to Singleton Parish Council, at 7 Boleyn Drive, Nyetimber Lane, Pagham, West Sussex PO21 3LG. All letters should be sealed and marked 'Confidential'. Each letter will be considered by the Parish Council in closed session, to ensure that privacy is maintained. It will then be sent to Chichester District Council's Housing Allocations Team, with a covering letter. This is not, of course, instead of joining the Chichester DC Housing List - applicants must ensure that they do this first.

Mountainboard Centre Re-Opens

Saturday the 18th March saw Haredown atb located just outside East Dean open its doors again for their seventh season. Mountainboarding is one of the youngest and fastest growing sports to hit the hills and mountains around the UK, and the slopes of the Lavant valley provide an ideal location.  The centre utilises the steep slopes of the South Downs and boasts what is widely regarded by those in the sport as the best 4-man boardercross track in the country with high sweeping berms, rollers and steep drops. There is also a freestyle area for performing tricks and stunts, scary woodland sections as well as gentle grass slopes for beginners. The runs are graded and colour coded according to their difficulty. The centre offers a great focus for young people in and around the valley and caters for young and old alike. For those who don’t feel so athletic there is a café, tractor rides and some great walks with tremendous views down the valley towards Charlton. There is also the chance to picnic or bbq in the beautiful surroundings of the downs. The centre offers great opportunities for children's parties or grown up fun. So get out there and enjoy the downs as they are right on our doorstep. For more information check out the website at www.haredown.com.

Singleton School’s Scarecrows

Goodwood Estate asked local schools for help with their organic farming. They wanted to use traditional methods to keep birds away from their crops, so Singleton School children have made three scarecrows for them. You can read about how they tackled the task by clicking here.

itting the Slopes

"Have you ever been skiing? I didn’t start until the age of 25 when I met my husband who went skiing with a group of friends. It’s a surprisingly easy skill to learn with the right tuition, and there is nothing more exhilarating than traversing down a steep run or just cruising along the gentler runs enjoying the scenery of an unfamiliar country in its winter environment." Out and About on Levin Down in the Cold Wind

At last we have found a little sign that Spring is somewhere about - one brave little dog violet. This was on March 19th. Usually by now there are masses of them. Still, hopefully by the time this comes out the weather will have warmed up and perhaps the old saying ‘March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb’ will be right this year. Click here to read Rosemary's article and to follow links to all her other submissions. This is the new home for Rosemary's index of articles.
